Temporary Quick Fix for broken tent poles

A broken tent pole especially for a dome tent may mean nights without the comfort of the tent for the rest of the trip. However, with some simple items, the broken pole may be patched up until you are back in the city.

For a split tent pole, what you need is either cable ties, wire or strings and some duct tapes. Cable ties and wire are preferred over strings as they are stronger and can hold the split section better. Use the cable tie, wire or string to secure the split section together. Use duct tape to wrap around the split section so that the cable or wire does not shift. See diagram below for illustration.

For a tent pole that is snapped into two halves in the middle, this is trickier. The ideal repair will be to find a ferrule to slip both ends into it. Any tube with open ends and inner diameter that is big enough to insert both ends of the snapped pole will do. See diagram below for illustration. If there is no suitable ferrule, use duct tape and tape the two ends together.
