Part Purpose/Function
1. Stabilizer/load lifter straps Small adjustment of the bag's center of gravity (CG). When going uphill, tighten the stabilizer straps so that the top of the bag and the CG is brought closer to your body. When going downhill, slightly loosen the stabilizer straps so that the CG is further for better stability.
2. Shoulder straps To carry the load on your shoulder. The padding of the shoulder strap should be firm for proper weight distribution. Avoid padding that is overly cushiony and thick as they are likely to be compressed during long trek and cuts into your shoulder.
3. Haul strap Useful when it is necessary to lift or lower bag using a rope.
4. Side compression straps To compress the bag when there is insufficient items to fill up its volume. This prevents unnecessary movement of items in the bag which may cause instability.
5. Sternum strap This connects the shoulder straps together across the chest at the sternum to prevent the shoulder straps from slipping off the shoulder. This also prevents the shoulder straps from pulling your shoulders back by bringing them closer at the front.
6. Lumbar pad Padded support that rests against the lower back and sitting on your upper pelvis.
7. Hip belt To transfer some of the weight of your backpack to your hip.
8. Ice axe loop and strap Securing of ice axe.
